16 Sep Friday...camped near Green River...Father Haggie [Heggie] broke his
legs...
30 Sep 1853- arrived Salt Lake City.

...an old Scotchman, named Heggis [John Duncan Heggie] in getting out of a
wagon, while in motion fell and the wheel went over his leg breaking it.
He was put back in the wagon.  We fortunately had a man with us, who had
been a doctor in Liverpool, who set the fractured limb, but he was unable to
walk the rest of the way.
Soon after this we came to Independence Rock, on the Sweet water river,
named we were told because General Fremont had camped there on the Fourth of
July, some years ago...
...we entered the valley...the Mormon Zion, for which we had travelled so
far almost eight thousand miles....From the twenty-fifth of February until
June the first by water and from June first until September thirtieth
overland, a distance of fourteen hundred miles....
